Marantz Model 1200 (1972 - 1975)
A high-power integrated amplifier built in Japan, combining circuitry from the Model 3300 and Model 240.
Overview
The Marantz Model 1200 is an integrated amplifier manufactured in Japan from 1972 to 1975. It merges the preamplifier section of the Model 3300 with a scaled-down version of the Model 240’s power amplifier. Designed for high fidelity, it delivers 125 watts per channel into 4 ohms with low distortion and wide frequency response. The unit was originally priced at ¥295,000.

Design
The Model 1200 uses a differential-amplified, pure complementary, all-stage direct-coupled OCL circuit. The preamp section shares the same configuration as the Model 3300, while the main amplifier section mirrors the Model 240 except for output differences. The output stage uses a 2-chip parallel push-pull configuration with selected transistor pairs for optimal DC balance. The equalizer, tone control, and amplifier stages are directly connected using differential circuits at the input. A cut-core power transformer with short-ring winding reduces magnetic flux leakage. Switch contacts rely on large surface area rather than gold plating, with adjusted contact resistance for reliability.
Product Family
The Model 1200 integrates scaled-down versions of the control amplifier Model 3300 and power amplifier Model 240. Its preamp section matches the Model 3300’s circuit design, and its main amplifier section follows the Model 240’s topology, differing only in output capability.
Market
Units with serial numbers from 3501 to 5900 may exhibit crosstalk issues, according to a manufacturer service addendum.
