Buchla 281 Quad Function Generator
A quad function generator module in the Buchla 200 Series, designed for complex transient generation and voltage-controlled timing.
Overview
The Buchla 281 Quad Function Generator is a modular synthesizer module developed as part of the Buchla 200 Series. It replaces the earlier models 280 and 284, consolidating and expanding their functionality. The 281 provides four independent function generators, each capable of producing control voltages for complex modulation and sequencing tasks. It supports ADSR envelope generation and can operate in Low Frequency Oscillator (LFO) mode.
Specifications
| Time range | .001 seconds to 5 minutes |
| Function generators | Four independent |
| Triggering | Each generator can be triggered independently |
| Envelope modes | ADSR envelope generation, LFO mode |
| Voltage control | Voltage control over attack and decay times |
| Outputs per channel | End of Cycle (EOC) and Sustain Gate outputs |
Design
The 281 features independent voltage control of timing, quadrature outputs, internal looping for repetitive function generation, and combining networks for creating complex transient functions. It includes remote control capability for integration with digitally aided systems.
Context
The Buchla 281 replaces models 280 and 284 in the 200 Series lineup. The 281e is a modern, digitally controlled version of the classic 281, compatible with all Buchla 200e systems and featuring digital recall of all parameters via the 200e bus.
