Dynaudio Heritage Special
A limited-edition bookshelf speaker handmade in Denmark, combining flagship driver technology with classic Danish design.
Overview
The Dynaudio Heritage Special is a hand-built bookshelf speaker, produced in a limited run of 2500 pairs at the company's factory in Skanderborg, Denmark. It was created as a tribute to Dynaudio's legacy of high-performance loudspeaker design, drawing inspiration from iconic models like the Crafft (1989), Special Twenty-Five (2002), and the original Contour (1986). The project was developed in secret by Dynaudio engineers Daniel Emonts and Otto Jørgensen, with strong support from the production team to keep manufacturing entirely in Denmark. It belongs to the Heritage Collection and pays direct homage to the brand’s most legendary stand-mount speakers, including the predecessor Dynaudio Special 40.

Design
The Heritage Special reflects Dynaudio’s philosophy of traditional Danish high-fidelity design, incorporating visual and structural cues from past classics. The cabinet features matched panels numbered before assembly, with thin list strips carefully aligned for grain and color. Each unit is hand-sanded by Malene and receives two coats of lacquer applied by Mikkel, sanded between layers for a flawless finish. The Esotar3 tweeter represents the finest tweeter technology Dynaudio has developed, also used in the flagship Confidence series. Over 2000 hours of R&D were dedicated to the project, ensuring both sonic excellence and craftsmanship integrity.
Context
The Heritage Special was conceived as a spiritual successor to the Dynaudio Special 40, celebrating the brand’s core engineering values. Drivers were adapted from the Confidence and Evidence Platinum series, marking a rare crossover of flagship components into a dedicated bookshelf platform. Though the later Contour Legacy model is visually inspired by the Heritage Special, the Heritage Special is a distinct product within the Heritage Collection. Its creation was driven by internal passion, with the production team insisting on full Danish assembly. It stands as a tribute to Dynaudio’s most revered stand-mount designs, bridging legacy and modern performance.
Market
Originally priced at approximately $7,000 per pair, the Heritage Special was released as a limited edition of 2500 pairs and sold out quickly following its launch in January 2021. No common failures, maintenance requirements, or spare parts information have been reported.
