Elektron Monomachine SFX60 (2004–2016)
A 6-voice digital synthesizer and sequencer from Swedish manufacturer Elektron, known for deep sequencing and multiple synthesis types.
Overview
The Elektron Monomachine SFX60 is a digital synthesizer and sequencer made by Elektron in Sweden. Released in 2004 and discontinued in 2016, it offers six tracks of sound generation across synth, FM, and drum categories. It features a unique sequencing engine with advanced control options, including the Amp Trig page for muting individual notes without altering the main pattern. The device supports tempo-synced, free-running LFOs that continue operating regardless of note triggering, and its arpeggiator can be set to unusual time signatures like 12 steps independently of the main track. One of its sound engines, the BBOX machine, became a favorite among users for ambient textures.

Design
The Monomachine features a SuperWave oscillator designed for warm, multi-oscillator analog-inspired tones, and each track includes sound-shaping tools such as tape-style delay, sample rate reduction, a 1-band EQ, and a resonant multimode filter. The Mk1 model is known to suffer from faulty displays and cracked display covers, with repair services documented for these specific issues.
Context
The Monomachine was discontinued in 2016 alongside the Machinedrum, marking the end of an era for Elektron’s early standalone groove boxes. It followed the Machinedrum (2001) and was introduced around 2003–2004, establishing itself as a more complex sequencer compared to its siblings, with deeper track programming and flexible arpeggiation.
Market
Used Monomachines have seen rising prices, with listings ranging from $2,300 to $3,000 in recent years. Mint-condition units from the original production run have sold for around £1,300 on Reverb. Demand remains strong among enthusiasts, often driven by the device’s distinctive "crispy, weird, and gritty" sound character and cult status after discontinuation.
