Context
The Leicaflex SL2 was the final model in the Leicaflex line before Leica rebranded the system as the R-series. Production ended in 1976, and the model was succeeded by the Leica R3. Despite its technical capabilities and durable design, the SL2 was ultimately discontinued due to economic pressures.
Market
The Leicaflex SL2 has appeared on the market in collectible conditions, with a "50 Years" chrome edition listed at €840.00 and a near-mint black model priced at $599.99 on eBay. Known issues include a fragile flash sync PC socket that can break off and occasional inconsistencies at slower shutter speeds (1 and 1/2 sec). Serviced units are available, and donor bodies exist for spare parts.
