Arriflex 35BL4S (1988–1990)
A 35mm motion picture camera in the Arriflex 35BL series, produced from 1988 to 1990.
Overview
The Arriflex 35BL4S is a 35mm motion picture camera made by Arnold & Richter under the Arriflex brand. It is part of the 35BL series, a line of professional film cameras designed for cinematography. Produced between 1988 and 1990, the 35BL4S was succeeded by the Arriflex 535, which led to its discontinuation.
Design
The 35BL4S featured a new film movement block, contributing to improved mechanical performance. It operated more quietly than earlier models, making it better suited for sound-sensitive shooting environments. The camera viewfinder included a larger exit pupil for improved usability, and the ground glass had a fluorescent illuminated frame with infinitely variable brightness control, allowing precise framing under various lighting conditions.
Context
The 35BL4S was discontinued in 1990 with the introduction of the Arriflex 535, which replaced it in the product lineup as the next-generation camera in the series.
