Technics SU-8077 (1979)
A mid-tier integrated DC amplifier from Technics’ New Integrated DC-Amp series, featuring direct-coupled circuitry and MC phono input support.
Overview
The Technics SU-8077 is a pre-main amplifier developed as a Middle Class unit in the New Integrated DC-Amp series. Built by Technics/Panasonic around 1979, it uses a straight DC method with no coupling capacitors between the input and speaker output stages, aiming for low distortion and wide frequency response. It supports both MM and MC phono cartridges directly, with the MC input utilizing a newly developed low-noise dual FET ICL in the first stage for improved noise performance. The amplifier features a pure electronic fluorescent display for output level monitoring and includes tone controls, loudness compensation, and selectable filters.

Design
The SU-8077 employs a straight DC method, eliminating capacitors from the signal and feedback paths to reduce phase shift and distortion. A single concentrated power block minimizes high-frequency distortion, while a peak power meter uses a pure electronic fluorescent display for clear output monitoring. The phono stage’s first stage uses a newly developed low-noise dual FET ICL. The tone control circuit removes the control element from the signal path at center position, and the Rec selector is independent for improved operability. Available in silver and black versions.
