Technics SB 7000 ()
A floor-standing linear phase speaker system designed for precise acoustic alignment and flat frequency response.
Overview
The Technics SB-7000 is a 3-way, 3-speaker floor-standing system as a prototype of Technics' linear phase speaker series. It was engineered to align the acoustic centers of its drivers along a vertical axis, aiming to deliver accurate sound reproduction with minimal phase distortion. This model represents an early implementation of linear phase design principles in consumer loudspeakers, emphasizing fidelity in both frequency and phase response.

Design
The SB-7000 features a damped bass reflex enclosure with vertically aligned drivers to achieve linear phase performance. The 35 cm cone woofer, 12 cm cone midrange, and 3.2 cm dome tweeter are mounted to align their acoustic centers, reducing phase interference. The tweeter uses a square-shaped strontium ferrite magnet, and both midrange and high-frequency drivers include level controls with anti-resonance circuits to minimize phase degradation when adjusted.
Context
Priced at ¥90,000 per unit in 1977 (¥100,000 for variants), the SB-7000 was positioned as a high-end speaker system during its release. It was part of a series that included the SB-7000W in white finish and the SB-7000MP in rosewood grain finish, reflecting Technics' focus on both technical innovation and aesthetic customization.
