Overview
The Pioneer CS-R700 is a 3-way, 3-speaker bass reflex bookshelf loudspeaker system . It was part of Pioneer's R Series and represented a shift away from furniture-style cabinets toward dedicated high-fidelity enclosures. Though not positioned as a high-end model, it emphasized advancements in bass reproduction through new materials and design. The international model CS-R700 corresponds to the Japanese domestic model CS-R70.

Design
The low-frequency driver uses a 30 cm cone-type woofer with a special coated FB (Free Beating) diaphragm made from treated pulp for rigidity and lightness, with a foamed polyurethane surround. It features a long voice coil wound edgewise with copper ribbon wire on an aluminum bobbin, a 140 φ ferrite magnet, and a pure copper shielding cap over the center pole. The woofer network includes an impedance compensation (CR) circuit. The mid-range is a horn type equivalent to unit PM-40, with sound-absorbing material in the yoke and a 4 mm thick die-cast horn featuring unique curve and fin improvements. The high-range uses a multi-cellular horn tweeter. The enclosure is a bass reflex design with a sound-absorbing partition in the center. Standard grill is brown; blue (PP-70BE) and red (PP-70RD) grills were optional.
Context
The CS-R700 marked Pioneer's move in 1972 from furniture-style speaker cabinets to dedicated high-fidelity enclosures. It reflected the company's focus at the time on refining bass reproduction through new materials and construction techniques, though it was not considered a flagship model in their lineup.
