Marantz Model 1060 (1971–1976)
A solid-state stereo console amplifier from Marantz’s early 1970s lineup, designed in the U.S. and built in Japan with extended frequency response and comprehensive tone controls.
Overview
The Marantz Model 1060 is a pre-main amplifier—also referred to as a stereo console amplifier—produced in Japan during the early 1970s. Designed by Marantz U.S.A., it reflects the company's engineering standards of the era with an emphasis on stability, audio fidelity, and robust circuit design. It delivers 30 watts per channel into 8 ohms with low distortion and a wide power bandwidth, making it a capable integrated amplifier for its time. The unit features a fully transistorized design and includes a protection circuit to guard against output transistor failure due to short circuits.

Design
The Model 1060 was designed by Marantz U.S.A. and built to meet their engineering standards. It uses a quasi-complementary symmetry circuit in the power amplifier section and features an ASO (Area of Safe Operation) detection-type protection circuit to prevent transistor failure from output short-circuits. The phono equalizer employs a 3-stage direct-coupled negative feedback (NF) circuit with six transistors, similar to the design in the Marantz #7T. The tone control section includes adjustable mid-range, with bass and treble bandwidth approximately double that of the mid-range to account for auditory perception. The amplifier is designed to remain stable even when driving a 10 μF capacitive load.
