The JBL 4312M is a 3-way speaker system introduced in 1999 as a downsized, desktop-optimized version of JBL’s renowned 4312 Series. Designed for space-conscious environments without sacrificing the signature look and performance, it maintains the aesthetic and acoustic philosophy of its larger siblings while fitting more easily into smaller rooms or studio setups. This bookshelf-type speaker features a magnetic shielding design to minimize interference with CRT displays, making it suitable for use in broadcast, studio, and home environments where video monitors are present. A matching wall or ceiling mount is available separately for flexible placement.

Design

The JBL 4312M features a newly developed 13.3 cm white cone woofer with a paper cone diaphragm and an accordion pleated surround to improve amplitude linearity. The frame is constructed from aluminum die-cast material for rigidity. The midrange uses a 5 cm cone driver, while the tweeter employs a lipsless pure titanium dome diaphragm for clean high-frequency reproduction. Both midrange and tweeter include three independently adjustable attenuators for fine-tuning response. The enclosure uses a bass reflex design to enhance low-frequency output, and the system incorporates magnetic shielding to reduce interference with nearby CRT displays. Optional mounting is supported via the separately sold Mounting Bracket MTC 520 (¥ 8,000 for 2 pcs) or Ceiling Adapter MTC 601 (¥ 3,600 for 2 units).

The JBL 4312M carries the style and visual identity of the classic 4312 Series but in a reduced desktop footprint, making it ideal for near-field monitoring and compact installations. A special package, the 4312M3, was offered around 2000 as a set of three units priced at ¥ 96,000, suggesting use in multi-channel or surround configurations.
