Design

The DCD-1500 uses Denon’s proprietary W super-linear converter, a double D/A converter system that reduces conversion errors by applying a correction signal to eliminate zero-crossing distortion. It features independent digital filter circuits for left and right channels, improving time alignment and channel separation. The digital filter is a 2x-oversampling FIR-type 121-order design with ±0.001 dB high-frequency ripple. An independently developed Computer Analyzed Linear Phase analog filter ensures flat group delay up to 30 kHz. The pickup base uses glass-fiber-reinforced BMC plastic, and the chassis employs a fully floated base with Q-dump material to resist external vibration, while a magnet clamper stabilizes the disc. The focus and tracking servo uses a high-speed IC, and internal power is supplied via isolated sources for digital, servo, audio, and display sections. The amplifier uses a DC servo configuration.

Context

Developed in 1985, the DCD-1500 was part of Denon’s early commitment to high-fidelity digital playback. It shares recognition with the DCD-3500 as a benchmark in digital audio performance. The DCD-1500 II is documented as its direct successor, indicating a clear product evolution within Denon’s CD player family.
