Design

The AA-A25 features a fluorescent display on the front panel that shows all functions and settings. It uses a super capacitor of approximately 1 farad for memory backup, located on the back of the display board. Grounding is achieved through the chassis via the screws that secure the circuit boards. The unit has no remote control capability and includes a reset button on the rear panel to restore the main computer to factory settings. A PAL connector is provided for FM antenna connection.

Context

The AA-A25 is part of a series that includes the AA-A35 and AA-A45, with the AA-A35 described as a "bigger brother." Earlier Akai models in the line include the AA-R22 and AA-R32.

Market

Tested, working units typically sell between $74 and $113 as of 2023–2026. Common issues include reset problems due to aging super capacitors, which may require resetting every 6–12 months. FM tuner malfunctions, incorrect display characters, and grounding issues from loose board screws are also reported. The proprietary processor chip is obsolete and unavailable, making repair impossible if it fails. Replacement STK amplifier modules are difficult to source. A common refurbishment practice is replacing all electrolytic capacitors with new audio-grade versions.
