Access Virus TI Snow (2008)

Desktop synthesizer module with Total Integration USB connectivity and a full TI-series sound engine in a reduced-control format.

Overview

The Access Virus TI Snow is a desktop synthesizer module released in 2008 as a more affordable entry into Access’s Virus TI series. It shares the same DSP-powered sound engine as the flagship TI models but features a simplified front panel with fewer physical controls. Designed for integration with computer-based studios, it connects via USB to function as a virtual instrument within a DAW using the included VIRUSControl software. The unit lacks a keyboard and sequencer, focusing instead on patch playback, multi-timbral operation, and seamless DAW control.

Design

The Virus TI Snow features a metal chassis with a perspex-like panel covering the LCD and an off-white, grey, and brown finish. The front edge includes a wood-effect strip with the Access logo, and legending is in brown with bright white LEDs. It includes a Logstoff M4 Messenger bag and relies on adaptive control-smoothing for zip-free parameter changes, with knob quantize available for stepped updates. The reduced hardware interface prioritizes software integration over hands-on control.

Context

The Virus TI Snow was created by scaling down the flagship Virus TI—reducing front-panel controls, DSP power, polyphony from 80 to 50 voices, and multi-timbral parts from 16 to 4—to deliver a more affordable version of Access’s Total Integration technology. It bridges the price gap in the TI lineup, which includes the Desktop, Keyboard, and Polar models. Marketed as one of the most affordable ways to access the TI sound engine, it retains nearly all the sonic capabilities of its siblings.

Market

The Virus TI Snow had an original price of £800 in 2008, £500 less than the £1300 Virus TI Desktop. As of March 22, 2026, used units sell for $700. On eBay, Snow models typically sell for 300 to 400 euros less than TI Desktops. Some users report issues with the TI software, including bugs and crashes, while others praise its total recall and integration.
