Olympus 35 SPn (1972)
A 35mm rangefinder camera with built-in spot metering and aperture-priority auto exposure, released as an updated version of the 35 SP.
Overview
The Olympus 35 SPn is a 35mm rangefinder camera introduced in 1972 as an updated version of the Olympus 35 SP. It features a G. Zuiko 42mm f/1.7 lens and offers both aperture-priority automatic exposure and manual control. The camera includes a built-in spot meter, a rare feature for compact rangefinders of its time. While mechanically similar to the 35 SP, the SPn has minor cosmetic differences, most notably a black aperture ring around the lens instead of chrome. It is part of a short-lived line that includes the Japan-only 35 UC variant.

The Olympus 35 SPn is nearly identical to the 35 SP in specifications and mechanical operation, with minor cosmetic updates. It retains the same mechanical design principles, with exposure controlled via aperture ring and shutter speed dial, and is known for its solid build and elegant, professional appearance.
Context
The Olympus 35 SPn was released in 1972 as an updated version of the 35 SP, continuing Olympus’s line of compact rangefinder cameras. It and its successors, including the Japan-only 35 UC, were the only compact rangefinders ever to feature a built-in spot meter.
Market
The Olympus 35 SPn is far less common than the original 35 SP model, contributing to its relative rarity in the collector market. Current value estimates range from $100–120 for average condition and $140–160 for very good condition. Owners note its scarcity, with few units appearing on auction sites.
