Technics SL-D3 (1978–1980)

A fully automatic direct drive turntable with precision servo control and integrated vibration damping.

Overview

The Technics SL-D3 is a direct drive full-automatic player system produced from 1978 until 1980. Manufactured by Technics, it features a brushless DC motor with B. FG. Servo speed control and an integrated turntable-motor design for stable rotation. The unit uses TNRC, an acoustic material with excellent vibration absorption, in a double vibration isolation structure for the cabinet and base. It includes a universal S-shaped static balance tone arm with a high-sensitivity gimbal suspension system and a 7 mg rotational axis sensitivity. The SL-D3 comes equipped with a memo repeat function and ships with an MM type stereo cartridge, either the EPS-270SD or EPS-270ED.

Design

The SL-D3 uses an original integrated structure D. D. motor and acoustic material TNRC. The B / FG method detects motor speed, with the motor's rotating part integrated directly into the turntable. A double vibration isolation structure employs TNRC in the cabinet and base to alter vibration characteristics. The tone arm uses a high-precision pivot bearing in a gimbal suspension system. The included cartridge connects a CKS magnet directly to a high-strength aluminum alloy cantilever to reduce effective vibrator mass, achieving flatter frequency response. The unit is equipped with a memo repeat function.
