TEAC C-2X (1981–1982)
A high-end 3-head stereo cassette deck with dual-speed capability, Dolby HX, and rack-mountable design.
Overview
The TEAC C-2X is a professional-grade stereo cassette deck produced from 1981 to 1982, designed for high-fidelity analog recording and playback. It uses a 3-head, 2-motor system with a closed-loop dual capstan mechanism for precise tape control. The deck supports both standard (4.8 cm/s) and double (9.5 cm/s) tape speeds, delivering extended frequency response up to 27 kHz with metal tape at high speed. It was positioned as the successor to the TEAC C-2 and supports a range of optional accessories for integration into studio or mobile setups.

Design
The TEAC C-2X uses a 3-head 2-motor system with a closed-loop dual capstan mechanism for stable tape transport. It includes a Dolby HX system to maximize dynamic range and features a BIAS/EQ independent 3-stage switching mechanism, with support for the plug-in CX-8 adjustment card. The deck has a tape slack removal mechanism, auto-rewind, timer standby, REC MUTE, and a differential-type left/right interlocking volume control. It also includes a dedicated test input and tape monitor with CAL position, and can be mounted in a 19-inch EIA standard rack. A separately sold remote control unit (RC-90) and rack handle (AH-50) were available.
