Luxman LMC-1
A high-efficiency moving coil phono cartridge with a unique yokeless magnetic system and precision sapphire cantilever.
Overview
The Luxman LMC-1 is an MC type cartridge, designed for high-fidelity vinyl playback. It features a proprietary Linear Magneto-field Cross (LMC) power generation system that eliminates the need for a yoke, using two coaxial samarium-cobalt ring magnets to create a uniform 360° magnetic field around the cantilever. This design enables highly efficient and linear signal generation. The cartridge uses a 0.3 φ sapphire rod cantilever and a 0.12 mm square semi-line contact stylus made of natural diamond, optimized for precise high-frequency tracing up to 60 kHz. It is mounted on a machined SPZ anti-vibration zinc alloy block chassis, which supports a concentrated mounting structure to minimize resonance and coloration.

Design
The LMC-1’s power generation system reduces the total weight of the magnetic assembly to 1/8 that of conventional designs while achieving five times higher efficiency. The dual ring-shaped samarium-cobalt magnets generate a uniform magnetic field perpendicular to the coil surface without flux loss, enabling linear performance. The block chassis is machined from SPZ anti-vibration zinc alloy and fixes the entire vibration system axially, with all components directly connected in a centralized mounting structure. The shell mounting surface is mirror-finished to prevent resonance, and the support system uses stainless steel wire to linearly absorb needle pressure, minimizing non-linear damping effects.
