Luxman L-505s (1990s)
A stereo integrated amplifier released in the 1990s, featuring dual VU meters and advanced circuit engineering for high-fidelity audio reproduction.
Overview
The Luxman L-505s is a stereo integrated amplifier manufactured by Luxman and released in Japan during the 1990s. It belongs to a series that includes the D-600s and D-700s CD players, indicating a coordinated product family design. The amplifier features two large VU meters, a Line Phase Sensor, and a System Bus for expanded connectivity. Designed with high-quality electrical amplifier circuit engineering, it supports both MM and MC phono inputs and includes a wireless remote control for system operation.
Design
The amplifier incorporates circuit technology and components derived from the L-509s, including custom ultra-low noise resistors based on acoustically refined carbon film. It uses Luxman’s proprietary OD β and ODNF circuits, along with the Complementary Single Stagger Circuit (CSSC), delivering ultra-wide bandwidth and high slew rate with minimal distortion. The power amplifier section employs high-capacity Pc150W class transistors, dual differential transistors, and high-voltage transistors. A large EI core power transformer supplies power, while a dedicated transformer isolates the microcomputer-controlled remote circuit from the audio path. Internal construction features symmetrical placement of heat sinks, block capacitors, and transformers, with a shielded BOX structure separating the power, supply, input/output, and display units. The speaker terminals are custom-designed to accept banana plugs and Y lugs, and the front panel includes a pear-shaped finish with precision hairline treatment and an 8 mm thick acrylic meter cover.

Inputs/Outputs
The Luxman L-505s includes Phono (MM/MC), CD, Tuner, Line 1, Line 2, and Main In inputs, with Rec Out, Pre Out, and Headphone outputs. It features both RCA and XLR balanced input terminals, along with a dedicated speaker terminal compatible with banana plugs and Y lugs. The amplifier provides two unswitched AC outlets rated up to 300W total.
Attachments/Features
Standard features include a power meter, phono jack, recording selector, speaker selector, mode selector, tone and balance controls, Straight Line mode, Subsonic filter, Loudness compensation, Phase inverter, Line Phase Sensor, wireless remote control, and headphone jack. The amplifier is designed for integration into multi-channel systems, with an optimal volume setting at -14dB for home theater use.
Product Family
The L-505s is part of Luxman’s f-Series and is designed as a pre-main amplifier, allowing separation of preamp and power amp sections for independent use. It can be upgraded to a separate system by pairing with other control or power amplifiers and supports bi-amping or multi-amping configurations.
