Denon SC-3000 (1981)

A high-end 3-way sealed bookshelf speaker system developed from Denon’s flagship SC-5000.

Overview

Designed as a compact counterpart to Denon’s top-tier floorstanding SC-5000, it inherits core technologies from that flagship model while adopting a bookshelf form factor. It features a 3-way configuration with a sealed enclosure, delivering extended frequency response from 30 Hz to 30 kHz. The system uses a combination of proprietary diaphragm materials and symmetrical driver layout for balanced acoustic performance.

Design

The SC-3000 uses a hermetically sealed enclosure made of hard particle board with a walnut natural wood finish. It features a 30 cm cone-type woofer with a High-M/P diaphragm made of wood pulp and refined ramie fiber, reinforced with concentric and radial ribs. The midrange uses a 10 cm cone-type squawker with a double-layered High-M-T diaphragm, with the folds of the woven fabric at 45 degrees to each other. The 5 cm tweeter has a semi-dome diaphragm with a special aluminum alloy center and High-M-T cone. All drivers use ferrite magnets and aluminum die-cast frames, with direct wiring and one-point grounding in the network section. The unit layout follows a symmetrical design.

The Denon SC-3000 had an original price of ¥128,000 per unit in 1981. A current listing shows a market price of ¥11,230 (tax included), though no broader collectibility trends or common failure modes are documented.
