Design
The Crescendo uses a bass reflex cabinet design and incorporates a 38 cm coaxial unit—either the 604E or 605B. These units feature a multi-cellar horn and 802/806 type drivers for high frequencies. The coaxial composite structure, with the high-frequency driver aligned concentrically to the woofer, ensures precise sound orientation, excellent directivity, and strong transient characteristics. The 605B differs slightly from the 604E in magnetic circuit design, resulting in subtly different start-up characteristics.
Context
Developed as a floor-type system tailored for the 604E and 605B monitor drivers, the Crescendo was engineered to bring professional-grade speaker performance into domestic settings. It was designed to complement the sonic characteristics of these widely respected units, offering a refined form factor suitable for home environments. The speaker reflects a collaboration between Elektri, who developed the system, and Altec Lansing, who approved and marketed it.
Market
The original price for the Crescendo with 605B specifications was ¥228,900 per unit around 1976.
