Akai AT-2450 (1979–1980)

A Japanese-built FM/AM stereo tuner from the turn of the 1980s, noted for strong FM performance and serviceable modern usability with basic restoration.

Overview

The Akai AT-2450 is an FM/AM stereo tuner produced by Akai in Japan from 1979 to 1980. Marketed simply as a tuner, it was part of a small series that included the AT-2650. While documentation is sparse, surviving units show it was built with serviceability in mind—some technicians have reported replacing most internal capacitors during restoration. It features a silver and black front panel and was constructed during Akai’s late 1970s push into high-fidelity audio components. One technician described it as a "rather impressive tuner" after servicing, and an owner has noted it outperforms many modern tuners in sound quality, comparing it favorably to the Magnum Dynalab MD-90T.
