Accuphase PS-500 (1996)
AC voltage stabilizer released in March 1996 with 500 VA capacity and waveform shaping technology
Overview
The Accuphase PS-500 is an AC voltage stabilizer designed to deliver clean, regulated power for audio equipment. Manufactured by Accuphase Laboratory, Inc.—originally known as Kensonic Laboratory, Inc.—it was released in March 1996 with a rated output capacity of 500 VA. The unit uses unique waveform shaping technology to correct input AC by adding and subtracting voltage via a control circuit, then outputs a high-precision sinusoidal waveform synchronized to the input frequency.

Design
The PS-500 uses waveform shaping technology to generate a high-precision sinusoidal output synchronized with the input frequency, without an internal oscillator. Input AC is corrected via a control circuit that adds and subtracts voltage, producing a compensation waveform of up to ±10 V. The power amplifier stage employs a pure complimentary symmetrical circuit with current feedback and uses 10 parallel complimentary push-pull transistors rated at 10A max. A super-ring type toroidal transformer (approx. 750 VA) provides power, and an AC feedback system maintains very low output impedance. The input includes a line filter for high-frequency noise reduction. Protection circuits activate if load exceeds 500 VA, input current exceeds 7.5A, output is short-circuited, DC appears, or output exceeds AC108V. A 70A current limiter handles inrush currents.
Context
The Accuphase PS-500 belongs to a family of AC conditioners that includes the PS-500v, PS-1200, and PS-1200v.
