Accuphase P-11 (1989)

Stereo power amplifier released in July 1989 with dual monaural construction and fully balanced topology.

Overview

The Accuphase P-11 is a stereo power amplifier manufactured in Japan and released in July 1989. It features dual monaural construction, fully balanced circuitry, and a push-pull parallel output stage. The amplifier uses a direct connection system with a DC servo system and includes both unbalanced phono and full-scale balanced inputs. It can operate in stereo or be switched to monaural mode via bridge connection, delivering up to 340W into 8 Ω. Two speaker outputs allow for A, B, or A+B operation, with independent high-current relays enabling bi-wiring. The front panel features a champagne gold scratch hairline finish, thick glass display, and thick metal end blocks.

Design

The P-11 uses a dual monaural, fully balanced, push-pull parallel topology. The voltage amplification stage uses a differential amplifier, followed by a FET cascode buffer stage to prevent preamp interference. The driver stage employs an original power MOS FET unique to Accuphase. The output stage uses three parallel push-pull large-output transistors with 130W collector loss, and each channel uses four pairs of Sanken SAP15N/P transistors. A large toroidal transformer supplies separate windings to the front and output stages, with independent left/right rectifiers and filters for the front stage. The input is direct-coupled with a DC servo system. A 1 dB step double attenuator handles level control. The amplifier includes an overload indicator and remote control capability.

Context

The Accuphase P-11 was released in July 1989 in Japan during the "Golden Age" of high-end Japanese audio equipment. It is listed among Accuphase's "Classic Models Reference."

Market

The Accuphase P-11 was originally priced at ¥230,000. It has been listed for €2,450.00 on Taste For Audio, previously at €2,870.00, and was also listed for $1,800 five years ago. Units in good condition show natural aging such as scratches and yellowing, but have been confirmed to operate flawlessly.
