Accuphase P-102 (1987)
Class A stereo power amplifier with fully balanced design and twin mono power supply
Overview
The Accuphase P-102 is a stereo power amplifier produced in 1987, marking the company’s first fully through-and-through Class A design. Built with a full dual mono construction and fully balanced circuitry from input to output, it uses parallel push-pull transistors in the output stage for high-band power amplification. The amplifier features both balanced and unbalanced inputs, a direct input connection method, and an original AcPHASE DC servo system to maintain stability.

Design
The P-102 uses a fully balanced push-pull system with Class A operation in both input and output stages. The pre-drive stage employs power MOS FETs in an original Accuphase design, while JFETs are used in the input stage. It features a twin mono power supply with independent left and right sections, discrete shunt regulators, fusible resistors, and an output relay. The amplifier contains four interchangeable amplifier modules and includes large logarithmic analog output meters with peak reading capability. The front panel features a gold-like scratch hairline finish with natural persimmon side boards.
Context
The P-102 served as the foundation for the later A-5x and A-6x series of Accuphase amplifiers. Founder Jiro Kasuga reportedly favored its high-frequency reproduction. It is recognized as a classic model within the Accuphase lineup.
Market
Listings from 2024–2026 show individual units selling between €1,999 and €2,300, with combo units (P-102+C-202) reaching up to €3,424. As a Class A amplifier, heat buildup has led to service needs over time, with output relays and solder joints on pre-driver heatsinks noted as potential failure points. Accuphase continues to support older models with repair parts.
