Accuphase E-306 (1994)
Integrated stereo amplifier released in December 1994, combining preamplifier and power amplifier sections with discrete circuitry and balanced inputs.
Overview
The Accuphase E-306 is an integrated stereo pre-main amplifier manufactured by Accuphase Laboratory, Inc. in Japan and released in December 1994. It features fully independent preamplifier and power amplifier sections, electrically and structurally separated for minimal interference. The unit includes a built-in phono stage for both MM and MC cartridges, two balanced inputs, and a motor-driven volume control operated via the included RC-14 infrared remote. Designed with high build quality and precision engineering, the E-306 delivers smooth, uncolored, and well-balanced sound with excellent transient response and sonic transparency.

Design
The E-306 uses a current feedback amplifier circuit with discrete components throughout. The power amplifier section employs parallel audio power transistors, while the line amplifier uses Accuphase’s differential-pure complimentary push-pull input and a single-ended push-pull emitter-follower output stage. The phono stage has dedicated circuits: FET-based for MM and a low-noise differential design for MC. Input selection uses sealed gold-plated relays with cross-bar twin contacts. The volume control uses a high-quality motor with clutch mechanism. The preamp and power amp can be used independently via dedicated I/O terminals. Large analog power meters feature logarithmic compression and peak hold. Banana plugs are supported on speaker terminals.
Context
The E-306 was positioned as a high-performance integrated amplifier offering sound quality comparable to top-tier separates, serving as a premium alternative to brands like McIntosh and Luxman.
